  • Bronze statue of Iwako Uryu, who founded Fukushima Aiikuen children’s home in 1893.
  • All concrete and asphalt surfaces of Fukushima Aiikuen have been decontaminated, though the treat of radiation exposure is a constant fear for both the children and staff.
  • Shared dinning and living space for 12 children, four high school students, four junior high school students and four elementary school students. The older kids take care of the younger.
  • Shared kitchen where the 12 children prepare their own meals
  • Girls wash room
  • Shared tatami room
  • Study area for junior high school aged children
  • Bunk beds for high school aged children
  • Fukushima Aiikuen Executive Director Saito, preschool children and their teacher. (Please note the children’s faces have been disguised to maintain privacy.)
