[Japan Business Association of Southern CA] 2020 Public Safety Updates in the Era of COVID-19 and Post U.S. Election

In response to the outbreak of COVID-19, some states and cities imposed lockdown and other emergency measures. Under such extraordinary situations, also triggered by the BLM movement, violent protests, vandalism, and lootings erupted across the nation. There have been nationwide movements calling for the defunding of police. Uncertainties over our safety still persist after the U.S. Presidential Election.

Our guest speaker for this special webinar is Chief Terry Hara, former LAPD Deputy Chief, who will be speaking about the U.S. law enforcement system as well as the current public safety issues in Southern California. Through a moderated discussion, Chief Hara will share his insights on (i) the U.S. law enforcement system, (ii) the “Defund the Police” movement, (iii) the current public safety issues in Southern California. He will also provide the audience with advice for safeguarding their lives and their loved ones.

Chief Terry Hara retired from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) after 35 years of distinguished public service for the City of Los Angeles. He achieved the rank of Deputy Police Chief and became the highest and the first ever Asian American in the LAPD to hold such an office. He is a motivational speaker and has been invited to speak at numerous events. Chief Hara is President of Terry Hara Consulting Group, Inc. In 2015, Chief Hara received a decoration of “The Order of the Rising Sun with Gold Rays and Rosette” from the Emperor of Japan for promoting the status of the Japanese American community as well as friendly US-Japan relations.
