Is Japan’s experience dealing with a prolonged economic downturn relevant to the US? As US policy makers maintain low interest rates, pursue quantitative easing and other unconventional monetary policies to try to address slow GDP growth and historically high rates of unemployment, what lessons can be drawn from Japan’s attempts to follow similar policies? What are the differences in the US approach, what are the similarities, and how will economic outcomes be affected? Please join us for a discussion of these and related policy questions with Richard Katz and Edward Lincoln, two of America’s most astute analysts of Japan’s role in the global economy and its relationship with the United States.
