Seeking Host Families for the 9th TOMODACHI MUFG Int'l Exchange Program

The Japan America Society of Southern California is seeking families to host Japanese high school students for five days and four nights for the 9th TOMODACHI MUFG International Exchange Program.  This people-to-people exchange will take place in mid-August 2020.

The purpose of the exchange program is to give the students a grassroots understanding of the United States, its people, language, and culture, as well as to teach the students about the local community and businesses.  The program offers a homestay experience with an American family, visits to U.S. corporations, universities in Los Angeles.  The program will allow the students to put into practice their English studies by giving them opportunites to speak English and interact with leaders and other persons from the local community.

This exchange program is hosted by the U.S.-Japan Council’s TOMODACHI Initiative and sponsored by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), including MUFG Bank and MUFG Union Bank, and the program expenses are paid by MUFG.

  • Seeking 20 host families in the Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego

  • Homestay experience dates from August 12, 2020 (Wednesday) through August 16, 2020 (Sunday)

  • Please note: Student pick up is 3pm – 4pm on August 12 (Wed.) at a Los Angeles location to be announced, and farewell party will be held on the evening of August 16 (Sun.) in Anaheim
  • Host family should provide student(s) with:
  1. Their own bed, however, students close in age may share a room with a person of the same gender
  2. Three meals a day.
  • Host family application deadline is Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at 5:00pm (PDT)
