Application deadline: March 1, 2020
Sports Camp of America (SCOA) is accepting applications for SCOA's senior camp counselor internship program in Japan for summer 2020 for college students and recent graduates who played sports, cheer or dance at an American high school or college to be camp counselors at SCOA's cross-cultural summer sports camp and are native-level English speakers.
Last summer, 17 students from UCLA, Washington, Oregon, USC, UC Santa Barbara, University of Miami, Pace University and Marist College were selected to come to Japan to be senior camp counselors. Their backgrounds included volleyball, football, lacrosse, soccer, track, cross-country, cheer dance, swimming, rowing and basketball.
SCOA also has a junior camp counselor internship program for current high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.
Since the camp is conducted in English, no Japanese language ability is required, but they do want students who are native level in English and who have a strong interest in learning about different cultures and enjoy coaching and playing with kids.
Dates of the camp
Senior camp counselors: July 9 to August 20 (tentative)
Junior camp counselors: July 16 to August 15* (tentative)
* For those junior counselors who can’t stay the entire time, exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.
Fees covered by the program
Senior counselors: Airfare and food & lodging at camp are covered. Non-paid internship.
Junior counselors: Airfare is not covered, but food & lodging at camp are covered. Non-paid internship.
The application deadline is March 1, 2020.
