PurposeTo send love and prayers from the people of Southern California to the people of Japan and to honor the lives lost, and the survivors and families forever affected by Japan’s worst natural disaster.
To support the recovery and rebuilding efforts in the devastated regions by visiting local people and creating new friendships.
To promote awareness and training programs at schools, workplaces and residences every March 11, and to prepare for unpredictable natural disasters in Southern California.
Background For the past eight years, the Love to Nippon Project has organized and presented the largest 3.11 memorial events held outside of Japan. Southern California is home to more Japanese citizens, more Japanese Americans and has more Japanese ties to Japan than any other region in the United States. Accordingly, those living in Southern California continue to respond and support those affected by Japan’s worst natural disaster.
History Since 2012, the Love to Nippon Project has held its 3.11 Memorial on the Sunday closest to March 11 at the LAPD Headquarters in downtown Los Angeles. Each year, hundreds of people attend the 3.11 Memorial to pray and to reflect. Objectives To continue the Love to Nippon 3.11 Memorial Event every March until 2021 at the LAPD Headquarters to learn and share the need for natural disaster preparedness. And to work to establish March 11th as an official California state-wide natural disaster preparedness training day.
