Angela Aki is a versatile musician/singer-songwriter with a stellar recording and performance career in Japan, which includes #1 hit albums on the Oricon charts and one that reached double platinum sales. She has performed on television, in videos and commercials, as well as in concert throughout Japan, including at the renowned Tokyo Budokan every year during her career. Angela was selected to write lyrics and record the theme song, both in English and in Japanese, for the video game Final Fantasy XII. She has worked in collaboration with songwriters Ben Folds and Janis Ian, as well as with Japanese artists. In 2009, she composed a piece called “Tegami” (Letter To My 15-year old Self) for the All-Japan School Chorus Competition. When released as a single, it remained on the Oricon charts continuously for 80 weeks. The “Tegami” lyrics have also been incorporated into Social Studies textbooks throughout Japan to encourage discussion of emotional issues that could lead to bullying, depression or teen suicide. In 2014, Angela moved to California to further her study of music theory, composition and orchestration for film and stage productions and is currently working on the development of a Broadway musical.
