Speaker

Maria Contreras-Sweet
Administrator, U.S. Small Business Administration

American small businesses employ roughly half of the nation’s private sector workforce and have created approximately two-‐thirds of the net new jobs. Data suggests that small businesses were hit the hardest during the recession, with declining rates and levels of lending from banks. Many argue that the level of lending is still too low today, creating cash flow and growth problems for small businesses. Furthermore, a recent study ranked seven California cities as some of the least small business friendly cities in the nation, with Los Angeles coming in at 74 out of 82. How can the SBA and local governments support small business success?

What role does diversity play in small business success? Maria Contreras-‐Sweet became the 24th Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration and a member of President Obama's Cabinet on April 7, 2014. In her first public address to the Los Angeles business community, Contreras-‐Sweet will speak about her vision for the SBA and the role of Southern California's vibrant and diverse small business sector in job creation and economic prosperity.
