For more than seven decades, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has delivered safe, reliable and affordable water for consumers and businesses throughout six Southland counties, supporting the region’s now trillion dollar economy. Southern California has invested $12 billion over the past 20 years to lower demand, expanding the region’s storage network and placing into reserve water supplies in wet years. In order to maintain that high level of reliability, Metropolitan needs to adapt and evolve to the changing conditions exacerbated by drought, climate change and aging infrastructure by being prepared to make the crucial investments needed to meet tomorrow’s water needs. According to a recent Los Angeles Times poll, however, only 36% of those polled were willing to use taxpayer dollars to achieve this. Join us for a frank discussion with Jeffrey Kightlinger, General Manager, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, about Southern California’s water future.
