We know what to do to prepare and help withstand future earthquakes and their cascading impacts. Southern California is laced with faults, including the San Andreas Fault, and historically has suffered many earthquakes, including 1971 San Fernando and 1994 Northridge, that each impacted and jarred millions of us in different ways. During its own growth, Los Angeles innovated its infrastructure and constructions to support and sustain this megacity that remains at risk. That same spirit of invention and investment is needed to help us prevent future disasters. By doing the things we know we need to do, we can keep making the region more earthquake resistant. Recent disasters remind us of the urgency to act now.
